Synopsis

Beloved by millions for its soaring melodies and deep running passions, Lucia di Lammermoor by Gaetano Donizetti tells the story of two warring families in 1600's Scotland. Based on a famous romantic novel by Sir Walter Scott, The Bride of Lammermoor, the opera is set in an atmosphere of intrigue where true love blossoms and two youngsters become trapped on opposite sides of an ancient feud. Lucy Ashton and Edgar Ravenswood should be mortal enemies, but their great love for one another overcomes this. Their affection becomes a casualty of politics and power when Lucy's brother, Henry, forces her into an arranged marriage to save the family fortune. Mobile Opera's Lucia di Lammermoor will feature an outstanding cast with Marnie Breckenridge in the title role, Dinyar Vania as her lover Edgar, and Luis Ledesma returning to play her brother Henry. They are joined by the Mobile Opera Chorus and the Mobile Symphony led by guest conductor Hal France. Performance dates are October 23 & 25 at 7:30 p.m. at the Mobile Civic Center Theater.
