Open to college Juniors and Seniors, graduate students and those completing any degree not earlier than May 2024 at any school in Alabama, Florida, Georgia,
Louisiana, Mississippi, Tennessee, or Texas.

The Competition Process: Preliminary judging will be based on a digital audio recording of one aria sent to MroseCompetition@mobileopera.org in a MP3 format. No applications by mail or video. All entries must include name, address, email address, phone number and school status. Do not send resume or head shot.


November 15, 2024: Deadline for application. There is no application fee for the preliminary round. A panel of three judges will select ten finalists and alternates.

December 1, 2024: The invitations to the final round will be extended via email.

December 15, 2024: Contestants’ acceptance to the final round must be received, along with the application fee, brief biographical information, and a head shot. The non-refundable fee of $50 will cover the cost of a collaborative pianist. Artists may bring their own pianist at their own expense but the pianist fee will not be waived. Travel costs and accommodations are the responsibility of the artist.

The final competition will be held Saturday, January 11, 2025 at 1:00 pm at the Larkins Music Center, 257 Dauphin St. Mobile, Alabama. Each competitor will perform two arias from standard opera and operetta repertoire in an order randomly selected by drawing. No Musical theater accepted. Any doubts about eligibility or the suitability of any selection may be addressed to mrosecompetition@mobileopera.org

The public will be invited, free of charge, and scholarships awarded at the end of the program.
